I have owned an Oliver 550 for about 10 years and have had excellent service from it. Last year (about the beginning of Winter) the 3 point hitch decided to stop lifting. I verified that my fluid is level is good but still no lift. I also have an Oliver Front End Loader on the tractor and it works fine. Without a load on the 3 point hitch it will lift when I raise the front end loader and then lower it; as the loader comes down the 3 point goes up. When the loader gets to the bottom the 3 point stops raising. My best guess is that there is a problem with a check valve, or is it possible that the fluid I am using is wrong? I am using "AW" hydraulic fluid and I see in my manual that it calls for 10W30 motor oil. If I lift the 3 point (implement attached) with a floor jack it will stay up if the control is in the up position. It lowers OK, but will not go back up. I'm stumped, any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help.
