If you have the approx. year model of 1973, then that should be a waukesha engine, 6 cyl. and my pump was a Stanidyne. There should be a line that comes together on your pump to tell you that the pump is on #1 cyl. You have to CAREFULLY take the gear off of the pump without taking the shaft out due to the type of seals on the pump shaft. and line up the pump timing lines in the timing window on the side of the pump.
If you have the same model that I have, the timing for the engine should line up on the fly-wheel if you look into a small opening on the right side of the flywheel housing and line up with #1 cyl. in compression.
The when the engine timing and the pump timing are correct, CAREFULLY re-attach the pump gear. The lines should still be lined up on the pump after the gear is re-attached.
