A cracked pump wouldn't loose the oil out of the res. It would just recirculate it back in to the pan. There would have to be a crack or hole between the hyd oil pan and rear end housing. I cracked the pump on an 1850 once and all that happened was that I lost a tremendous amount of hyd pressure.
