Rick, if the shifter has "jumped" out of the correct notch in the top of the transmission, you may not get the higher gears. If this is what is wrong, it's a simple fix.
Take out the 2 bolts that hold the shifter into the top of the tranny. Pull up on the shifter to remove it, BUT BE CAREFULL THAT YOU DONT DROP THE 2 SMALL SPRINGS UNDER THE SHIFTER BASE INTO THE TRANNY! Once the shifter is out, look into the top of the tranny at the 2 rails that have a notch in them. Using a large screwdriver, align the notches next to each other, replace the shifter and you are done.
This is a job that can be completed in about 20 minutes, no biggie!
