I have a model 2418. It has the tandem transmissions. I have always used the front one, leaving the rear one in third (direct drive). The front one has locked up in second gear three times now. I suppose the little pawl? that moves the slides has worn and this causes the problem. The only way to correct it is to pull the top of the transmission, no easy task, as a lot of sheet metal has to come off. I have now phsically fastened the front shifter in third and am using the rear one for routine shifting. If I need granny gear, I can unlock the front one and use second or first.
