I've heard them called "Lovejoy" connections (a major maker of these) and also called "ragjoints". Technically it is a flexible conection that allows to shafts to be joined together, even though one may have vibration or misalignment on it. These are fairly strong, often used in steering shafts in cars and light trucks. You might get a replacement from a local auto parts place or truck repair shop.
