I have thouroughly torn apart and successfully put back together the hydaulics on my Long 460. Heres a list of things to check. First, check fluid level (no brainer). Second, clean or replace hydraulic stainless steel filter on the front lower right hand of the tractor (I recommend changing it). Third, check left hand auxilary hydaulic spring. If broken, the lever to control auxilary hydraulcs will drift causing that straining sound. Next, if that doesnt work, check all seals of the left side hydraulic unit. BE CAREFUL when you pull all apartt because theres a little black o-ring that tends out. (This 0-ring failed on me before because of excessive stain) Be sure to change out paper gasket when you do this. Itll leak if you dont. Next, check hydraulic head 0-ring for wear and tear. BE CAREFUL not to break flimsy brass outer ring thats on the outside of o-ring. Check piston cylinder for damage while your there. Also inspect all 0-rings. Thants all I got for you. Good Luck.
