the JD dealer near me here in se texas has an American made JD 5500 (50 hp) for less than $15,000. options cost more, of course, but to me that is a lot better than the foreign imports for way more money. however, the JD yanmar built tractors are very reliable. grey market trators is usually refered to as refurbished USED tractors. they may have a PTO that turns the opposite direction and may be missing some safety items like rollover bars and starter "dead man switches". beware if you find one and don't walk, but run from it as they may also have parts and service problems.
