Sorry guys for all the duplicatins above. When I made my entry it didn't appear to take, so I did it again, and again, and again. Sorry again.
HOwever, I did take the 444 out for a cutting spin today. I mowed arond the fence line in Poison Ivy up to the oil pan.
444 ran great for about an hour, and sure enough, it started to spit and sputter again.
Nursed it back to the shop. Let it cool, and then cut a metal 'heat shield' to go between carb and engine. I wired it to the carb and air intake tube. It works fine, there is about 1/2" air gap between carb and engine wall. This should let the fan move air between the two areas and keep the new shield cooler. Hope so any way.
Well, back to the field to try it out again tomorrow.
