Down in side of your carb is a little round tube.If that little fuel tube is bent up in anyway fuel will spray up and out of carb. Sounds like when you put on the air breather you are cutting off the air to the carb. Sounds like you need to ajust your carb. There are to screws on the front of your carb. One is air and the other is fuel.Try turning one screw at atime in. Just a little bit.
