There are many advantages to Live PTO and no advantages to non live, except it was easier to manufacture from the factory and are simpler. Non Live means when you step on the clutch to stop, forward motion and the PTO stops. With a live PTO when you step on the clutch only the forward tractor motion stops and the PTO keeps spinning until it is disengaged, some live systems use 2 stage clutches with operate about the same way, push clutch half way then tractor stops, push all the way the PTO stops. Usefull for many things. Farm implements, mowers, etc.
